Overview
Avner Cohen, widely known for his path-breaking history of the Israeli nuclear program, is an Israeli-American author and expert on nonproliferation issues, focusing on the Middle East. In his presentation he will discuss how the October 7 HAMAS attack on Israel, the Israel – Iran War, and the ongoing Gaza War are re-defining conflict and security in the region. Professor Cohen is not an armchair commentator. He was in Israel most recently when Iran fired missiles at Jerusalem after the Israeli and American attacks on Iranian nuclear facilities in June of this year.
Avner Cohen has published widely on nuclear nonproliferation and global nuclear history. His most acclaimed book, Israel and the Bomb, was published by Columbia University Press in 1998. Professor Cohen is one of the world’s most renowned philosophers in our nuclear age. He earned his M.A. in Philosophy from York University, Canada and his Ph.D. from The Committee on the History of Culture, University of Chicago.
